Research

I am interested in kinship and its relationship to cannibalism. Cannibalism is common in the animal kingdom and many cannibalistic species show kin-avoidance in their predatory behavior. Specifically, I will analyze the morphological aspect of cannibal's brain. I am focusing on the ventral telencephalon of three-spine sticklebacks. The three-spine stickleback is an interesting model as it comes in two strains. One is cannibal, benthic and one non-cannibal, limnetic. The cannibal one presented some key elements of kinship, mainly kin avoidance during nesting time.
