During my PhD thesis I worked on the role of kainate receptors, a subtype of glutamatergic receptors, in synaptic transmission. More generally, I am interested in the role played by synaptic integration in the coding of information in the control and diseased brain. Most of our current knowledge on synaptic integration derives from intracellular recordings performed in brain slices. I would like to take advantage of newly developed techniques for intracellular recordings in vivo to gain insights in the role played by synaptic integration in the coding of neuronal information in the hippocampus.
